All specially abled individuals aspire to be part of the mainstream of society—and Charmi Desai is a shining example of that determination.
Despite being visually impaired and studying in a blind school up to Std. 10, Charmi was clear about her ambition: she wanted to pursue the science stream in a regular school environment. However, she encountered a major roadblock. With no science stream available at her institution and no existing provision for conducting practical exams for blind students in mainstream schools, her dream seemed difficult to achieve.
At Sarvajanik Education Society’s RSM Experimental School, we were initially hesitant. But recognizing her passion and resolve, we chose to take on the challenge. The matter was escalated to the Gujarat Education Board, and with their support, special permission was granted for her admission.
This was not just a step forward for Charmi—it became a path-breaking moment for all Divyang students across Gujarat, opening doors that were previously closed.
And today, that courage has borne fruit.
The results are out, and Charmi has passed with flying colours—securing the 1st rank in her class, competing alongside other students in a regular academic environment.
Her achievement is not just academic success—it is a powerful message of inclusion, perseverance, and breaking barriers. Congratulations to Charmi and Andhajan Mandal for their constant support as always !
