Surat to Host India’s Largest Inter-School and Inter-Club Taekwondo Championship

Over 2,000 young athletes from Surat to compete across three days from January 16 to 18

Surat is set to host one of the largest inter-school and inter-club Taekwondo championships not only in Gujarat, but across India. Organised under the guidance of Dynamic Warrior’s Chief Coach, Pamir Yogeshbhai Shah, the prestigious championship will take place over three days on January 16, 17, and 18.

The tournament will be held at Sukoon Turf on VIP Road and is expected to witness participation from nearly 1,800 to 2,000 young athletes from across Surat. Designed exclusively for the city, the championship will feature students from Surat’s schools and clubs only, offering a dedicated platform for local talent without participation from outside districts.

Speaking about the initiative, Pamir Shah highlighted that Taekwondo is an Olympic sport and that Surat is steadily emerging as one of India’s key Taekwondo hubs. The championship aims to identify emerging talent while motivating students already undergoing training to showcase and refine their competitive skills.

Matches will be conducted daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and sports enthusiasts from the city have been warmly invited to witness the high-energy competition.

Addressing parents and students, Pamir Shah stressed the importance of encouraging children to move away from excessive screen time. He noted that engaging in sports such as Taekwondo not only nurtures athletic growth but also builds self-defence skills, physical fitness, discipline, and self-confidence.

Dynamic Warrior has been actively promoting Taekwondo in Surat since 2011. Today, the organisation operates 12 training centres across the city, training over 1,800 students, and conducts Taekwondo programmes in nearly 40 schools.

Among its most notable achievements, four students trained under the organisation have won medals at the Asian Championships, earning recognition and ₹10 lakh each in government incentives from the Gujarat government. Additionally, more than 25 students represent India every year at World and Asian Championships, while over 200 students have secured medals at the national level. This landmark championship is expected to serve as a significant milestone for Surat’s sporting ecosystem, further strengthening the city’s reputation as a powerhouse for Taekwondo talent
